Crochet Stunning Winter Tunic Dress – Chart Explained

Are you a yarn hoarder?

I guess you are. Have you ever thought what will you do with all the skeins lying around in your closet or drawers? Have you noticed that time passes and seasons come and go but the yarn amount keeps on growing in spite of your better judgment and lack of time to work it?

If all the above apply …you are like me. :)

So for all the crochet fans out there , aware of the fact that the winter is coming and a haute look is mandatory even during a cold season, here comes a pattern I am extremely fond of.

If you ask why the rant from the beginning of this blog post , here comes the explanation.

1. Most crochet fans have a certain amount of thick yarn that would be ideal for a pullover. However, unless you work outside, most office buildings and homes have central heating and wearing a thick pullover while inside will be a punishment.

2. The Fall – Winter 2014-2015 fashion trends brought back the oversized knits. Basically anything knitted or crocheted following the loose fit principle is a huge go.

3. Pairing loose fitted knits with tight fitted bottoms or bell bottom pants is the next big thing you can choose fashion wise.

So here goes a functional, sexy but also extremely trendy pattern you can work in the shape of a tunic dress, an oversized sweater or a longer dress to wear with a slip dress and a belt.

Bodice: make 2

           Chain the required length

Main section:

R1: Ch4, 1tr in each chain

R2: Ch6, 4tr tog,ch4,4trtog,ch4….(to the end of the row) close with ch2and 1tr

R3:Ch4, 1tr in the first ch,ch3, 1tr in the second ch, sk 2ch,repeat….close with 1tr

R4: Ch4, work 1 tr in every ch space from the row below

Repeat R2 and R3

Lace section:

R1: ch5, 1sc in the 2^nd chain ( from the chain space below), repeat until the end

R2:Repeat r1 but every 3 chain spaces work 7 dc inside the chain space (skip and link to the required chain space)

R3: repeat r1 but in the 7dc work 1dc ch1 in every dc below (skip and link to the required chain space)

R4: repeat r1 but in the “fan” space work 1dc in each space (makes 14) (skip and link to the required chain space)

R5: repeat R1

Alternate Main section and Lace section until required length.

Same goes for the sleeves.

Bottom, cowl neck and cuffs:

When worked from bottom up chain the required length.

When worked post upper section work upside down starting from the first row.

R1: 1dc in every spoke (Chain)

R2: Ch 3, 4dc, 1 Fpdc skipping 1 spoke,1dc in the same spoke, 1Fpdc in the skipped spoke, 5dc ( repeat till the end of the row).

The pattern is pretty much the same. In order to get the diamond shape follow the chart and increase respectively decrease the number or dc in between the Fpdc.

This is pretty much it. It may sound a bit of a handful but you can be sure the pattern is far easier than it looks. Considering the stunning finish and the wow effect such a tunic dress will have when the oversized knits trend is considered,I hope you will take the challenge and make one for yourself or your daughter.

For the yarn hoarders (like me) it is a good idea to make a sweater with this pattern using yarns of different colors. You can also consider multiple texture in case you choose to go for a more hobo inspired look and offbeat finish.

Easy to Make Spectacular Crochet Winter Tunic

If you are like me, fond of tunics and their versatility you will surely love this post.
Leaving aside the fact that I lost over 2000 patterns and charts because of a faulty memory stick that failed me badly last week, I have to say I am a bit sad because I lack time to complete 3 different projects started out of need.

- 1 tunic ( I had nothing to wear for the office Christmas party)
- 1 knitted furry vest for my little one ( boucle mohair yarn...killer for the nerves...extremely difficult to knit)
 - 1 evening bolero ( Thank God I fit into a dress so I have something to wear at the Christmas party , but nothing to cover an open back sleeveless cocktail dress)

So...you can guess I am in a foul mood and the only thing calming my nerves is ...of course looking for exciting projects to replace the ones I lost.
This particular tunic I love simply because it combines amazingly easy 2 basic patterns and a thick yarn that will help you get it done extremely quickly. I have a special melange acrylic thick yarn put aside for this model and this post will be updated as soon as the tunic is done.
